Peach Tree 7 Peach Tree
When is the best time to transplant a peach tree?

When can you transplant a peach tree in southern Arkansas?

Peach trees, like any other fruit trees are best transplanted after cold weather has caused the tree to go dormant (drop it’s leaves). Many big box stores (Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) only sell fruit trees in the spring. However planting trees in the spring before the break dormancy is OK, but not the best practice. It’s much better to plant them in the fall. This allows the tree to get it’s root system established first, before having the added strain of growing leaves right away.

Trees roots will continue to grow and strengthen as long as the ground isn’t frozen (probably not a big issue in southern Arkansas) so if you plant (or transplant) a tree as soon as the leaves drop, it will have all winter to establish it’s roots, before it has to make new foliage in the spring.

Best of luck – and remember – dig a $20 hole for a $5 tree….
